summer inspiration.

hello!

i found this picture of kelly osbourne with her boyfriend at coachella & i just love it! her dress is so cute, & with the hair? lovelovelove! it inspired me to do a, well, inspiration post. just some looks that i'm craving this summer~

sean lennon is such a cute one. (i did not just say that.)

i wish i had grace like that... but alas, i am far too clumsy & short for such things! xD
(pictures from style.com, who what wear, & probably somewhere else i can't remember.)

piercing #2! (& fiona apple)

bonjour!

so, i told you i had a surprise for you yesterday... here it is!

i got a second ear piercing! it was really an impulse -- i had seen a picture on a blog (i wish i could remember which!) with three ear piercings on the lobe, & i had thought that was neat. yesterday, i decided i'd do it! i'm going to do it in steps, however. also, my friend alyssa (who lives thousands of miles away) got four per ear yesterday! i thought it was neat that we did it the same day & had no idea. xD

this is the aerie surf-ish hoodie i bought. it's SO SOFT; i plan on wearing it with leggings/tights.

& some inspiration: fiona apple~

& also, i was youtube-surfing & found this jewel. she's a great performer & I LOVE HER VOICE. it's raw & unique & deep (in terms of range). it's also quite the opposite of mine. xD

i'm off to indiana tomorrow with my stepmom to visit my dad; he's working there for the summer. i hear there's some fabulous shopping to be done, and we have some relatives whom i don't see often who live close by where we're staying. it'll be a good trip, i think.

music!monday -- major tom 2.0; shiny toy guns.

hi there!

i'm exhausted, so i haven't much to say except i really freaking love this song, & i applaud lincoln for using it in their mkz commercial! now if only they can get cat power to do a full cover of "space oddity"...

i love the makeup & clothes in this video, too! sparkles~

i feel random:

hey there loves,

today seems like a good day to post some random inspirations. hopefully after this next week i'll be able to post some decent posts -- this is (hopefully) my last week of school until SENIOR YEAR! (unless i have exams. then phooey.) but anyway~

(that's pretty pessimistic to me~)

i love this one! i'm just a vegetarian, not a vegan -- though i greatly admire them. once i move to a more vegetarian-friendly area, i hope to at least halfway convert.

go vegans go!

rachel loves army jackets!

hey loves!

GOOD LORD, it's been a long time since my last [real] blog post! i am so sorry! life has just been such a whirlwind. schoolwork has been kicking my ass; my algebra 2 with trig grade is looking dismal (for me, anyway), spanish 2 is driving me insane, & for the past two weeks in english we've been working on the grade's first research paper. i've never written a research paper before -- i've written a research speech, but still -- and it seems that everyone expects me to know this stuff. thesis statement? source cards? uhm, i'm sorry: i'm not your teacher. but anyways, i didn't mean to get off on that rant...

the school's band & choir spring concerts are over, thank goodness; now i have two free periods! the choir concert went quite well; my voice kind of died afterwards, but it's all good. i had this sweet old lady walk up to me after the concert & say, "you just have the prettiest voice! you sound like a songbird." it made me glow. :) band concert... could have been better, but alas, it was still okay.

BUT ENOUGH OF LIFE. its terribly mundane. i don't have any outfits of my own to show, but i have a special obsession of mine...

ARMY JACKETS! <3

(pictures from who what wear)

army jackets are amazing. rough & tough & destroyed & everything i dream grunge. i love olivia palermo's take; i love belted things, and belted army jackets? yes please!
i've yet to own one of these, however. i found one in a local consignment shop; however it was a men's large, which reached my knees. still on the look-out!

(i also love army jackets for guys. just saying.)

i promise to be back sooner this time! i felt so bad neglecting my blog-child...
comment me please!

strangelove: that's how my love goes. (thrift finds + depeche mode inspired outfit.)

hey loves!

so i went consignment-shopping with my quite fashionable friend, tabitha, about a week ago. i thought i'd share the fruits of our labor with you. (or at least, what i got. i know, so narcissistic.) she also got some amazing stuff from the consignment shop & one of her relatives -- true vintage stuff! but anyway, onto the pics~

denim shirt! i've already worn this once & it's so comfy. also, navy houndstooth-esque print dress. it fits a lot like a tennis dress, at least to me. $1! :)

cream & black brocade skirt! i'm so in love with this thing. the black print is velvet, too! the brown "hippie" skirt is actually a steal from tabitha, who didn't want it. score!

next: outfit! my inspiration for this outfit came from two of (my favorite band) depeche mode's members, circa middle-late 80's. (the title is a lyric from one of their 80's singles, actually.) how was i inspired? let me show you.

this is martin gore. in the mid-80's, he went through a semi-cross-dressing phase... a phase i love to draw inspiration from! while he no longer dresses in girl-clothes(xD), he still wears unique clothes & makeup for dm tours. i didn't find a picture with him in a skirt (though i have a few of him in a dress), but i found this one with his layered necklaces! also, check out that dangly earring.

oh, dave, i am sorry these pictures obscure your face! i'll make up for it. but anyway, dave makes denim look amazing -- he also didn't just wear denim jackets in the 80's, but also in the early 90's and even some in the 00's. his sunglasses in the late 80's & early 90's were also spectacular.

and, my outfit:

denim/sunglasses (dave) + necklaces/black skirt (martin)! i know, it pales in comparison to the real thing.
denim jacket &sunglasses are from kohl's, green shirt underneath & black ruffle skirt is from target. purple heels are from... goody's, maybe?

chain&rhinestone earrings are from belk's, cross pendant was a gift, chain&pearl necklace is vintage. also, flower ring (slightly evident in full-outfit pics) is from mark.

maybe i'm a bit too obsessed with dm... nah, not yet.
but anyway! what do you think?

rachel. <3

music!monday -- lady gaga!

hello dears!

man, i hate mondays. i think most people do, actually. so how to combat this?

lady gaga!

c'mon, she makes good pop music. & good pop music always makes me happy. haha. & she's unique -- at least, more so than other pop stars -- & unafraid to be herself! so props to her! here we go~

just danceeee. this video is crazy! so, of course i love it. :D

RA-RA-RA-AH-AH, ROMA-RO-MA-MA, GA-GA, OH-LA-LA, RA-RA-RA-ROMANCEEE.
i really love this video. the costumes are excellent! in fact, all the aesthetics are. i think lady gaga is gorgeous. and also, please tell me someone noticed those alexander mcqueen skull/bone heels?

beautiful. dirty. rich.
i totally listen to this song when i'm getting ready or i need a confidence boost. it does the trick! :D

so, yeah. three lady gaga music videos to make your day that much more fabulous! lady gaga's sense of fashion really inspires me -- all three of these videos have amazing outfits/costumes!

opinions? thoughts? sandwiches? hit me up!

rachel. <3

film inspiration: the great gatsby

happy sunday!

so yesterday i watched the great gatsby -- or to be more precise, the second half. it was GREAT in terms of aesthetics, and though the way it was shot & the somewhat soap-opera-style may have thrown some people off, i highly enjoyed it. i also read the book late last year for my english class, and i have a literary crush on f. scott fitzgerald anyway, so... xD

and it was such an inspiration! the 1920's were such a liberating time, as far as women's fashion goes. this movie's costumes were great. so look on! though you won't believe how ridiculously hard it is to find screenshots of the movie -- i couldn't find any of jordan or nick, and i really prefered jordan to daisy. oh well. (also, sam waterston was excellence in this movie, though he looked a little strange without the grey... haha.)

ahaha, i love this swimming attire! <3

ah, i did find one of jordan! she's the brunette.

so, how do you feel about the great gatsby? if you've neither read nor watched, i highly recommend doing both.

rachel. <3

crazy old guys at fashion week(s).

Align Center
james goldstein at anna sui spring 2010 rtw.

hey loves!

tonight was the FCHS spring coffeehouse, and it was amazing, as always. we had a HUGE crowd & the music was great. & made vegan brownies & everyone loved them! good night. :) i'll have another post devoted to the event (and the outfit, of course!) later this weekend, if all goes well. :)

however, tonight's post is about those random old guys you see at fashion week -- you know, those guys where you're like, "why is he here?" okay, these people are actually probably quite well known in the fashion world, but besides them being associated with magazines or photography, i have no idea. xD ignorance is bliss.

but anyway. i love these guys! they're refreshing and interesting. so look on!

hamish bowles! you'll be seeing more of this man -- he's always dressed snazzily, & c'mon, who doesn't love that mustache? at calvin klein spring 2010 rtw.

bill cunningham at chloe spring 2010 rtw. he's so adorable; he reminds me of my late great uncle
.

terry jones. balenciaga spring 2010 rtw.

terry richardson & olivier zahm, respectively. they're kinda scruffy and remind me of the 70's rock scene and i just LOVE IT.

and last but certainly not least, patrick demarchelier! a highly respected photographer, this man dresses like a dressier version of my grandfather. in fact, their jackets pretty much are identical. and i adore this! first is from chanel spring 2010 rtw, second is chloe spring 2010 rtw.

so! i hope you find these guys to be inspiring. they all just dress the way they please (especially james goldstein -- which is why he's a great inspiration to me!), which can be very hard in the world of fashion. but they make it work, and they are fabulous.

share your opinions with me!

with love,
rachel. <3
